“The loss of language brings a loss of identity and sense of community, loss of traditional spirituality, and even loss of the will to live.” –Daniel Everett

An estimated 6,800 languages are spoken in the world today and linguists estimate that half are endangered, predicting that 90% of endangered languages will be extinct by the end of the century.

NPR’s Lost and Found Sound has the only known recording of a woman singing a lullaby to her baby in the language of Kukasi. Click here to listen http://www.npr.org/programs/lnfsound/audio/990402.audio.html.
