Rent
Since I’m dead
I don’t care how I’m dressed –
my dad
picked out the suit.
I don’t have another.
I’m not that fat, either,
because only worms worry about
whether I’m too many calories.
I don’t need to sleep.
I’m always in bed,
comfortable in my satin-lined coffin.
No boss, no teacher, no landlord –
I make my own hours,
I learn from the cold earth,
I’ve paid my rent
for a very long time.
